Blackberry Smoke & Allman Betts Band cover the Rolling Stones in New York


The final stop on the Spirit Of The South tour included several covers of The Rolling Stones performed a day after Charlie Watts’ death.

Blackberry Smoke and The Allman Betts Band resumed their Spirit Of The South tour with The Wild Feathers on Wednesday at The Rooftop At Pier 17 in New York City. Several Charlie Watts tributes arrived in New York City a day after the drummer passed away as The Allman Betts Band a cover of the Rolling Stones in their set and then teamed up with BBS for another Stones classic later that night.

The Allman Betts Band opened with the original ‘Savannah’s Dream’ and then covered ‘Dead Flowers’ from The Rolling Stones’ Sticky fingers LP. Last night’s “Dead Flowers” was the third for ABB according to Setlist.FM. The group led by Devon Allman and Duane Betts performed their own “Carolina Song” before giving fans a double dose of Allman Brothers Band classics in “Blue Sky” and “Midnight Rider”. A series of originals completed the set.

Blackberry Smoke Delivered A Gem-Rich Main Set From Their 2012 Album Nightjar and the recent release You hear Georgia last night. The band then opened a cover encore with a rendition of Atlanta Rhythm Section’s “Spooky”. Next, BBS was joined by The Wild Feathers for Lynyrd Skynyrd’s gem “Tuesday’s Gone” and was directed by Jimmy hall on “Country Side Of Life” and “Keep On Smilin ‘” by Wet Willie.

The Allman Betts Band emerged after Hall appeared to collaborate with Blackberry Smoke on “You Can’t Always Get What You Want”. Devon Allman and the frontman of BBS Charlie starr shares main vocal duties on beloved Rolling Stones song Let it bleed album. The two groups said goodbye to the Big Apple with covers of “Southbound” and “Whipping Post” by The Allman Brothers Band. The Spirit Of The South Tour continues tonight in Boston.
