Blackberry smoke shared a new pro-shot video from the group covering ZZ Mountain peak‘s “Jesus Left Chicago” with members of The Allman Betts group. The clip was recorded live on southern rock bands’ Southern spirit tour, currently in progress.
After the bassist of ZZ Top Dusty hilldied on July 28, the two groups teamed up for covers of “Jesus Left Chicago” on July 30 in Bridgeport, CT and on August 1 in Huber Heights, OH via Setlist.FM. The tributes took place during the usual tour’s closing show, during which members of the various Southern spirit groups get together for scrambled covers.

This take on the Very Hombres classic evokes additional meaning like Blackberry Smoke’s Charlie starr uses the same 1950 Fender Broadcaster that Billy Gibbons used to record the track on the 1973 album. Starr is joined by a chorus of guitars including Devon allman and Duane Betts who all have their solo turns on the Texas blues crawl.

During the Southern spirit Wednesday stop in New York City The roof of platform 17, Blackberry Smoke and The Allman Betts Band reunited at the show’s closing collaborative ensemble for a touching rendition of “You Can’t Always Get What You Want.”
