Catoctin Creek Distilling and heavy metal rock band GWAR return for their second release from Ragnarök Rye.
The Virginia natives teamed up to release the first collaboration in May 2021, and this second release will see a thousand more instances of the collaboration.
“We really thought we saw the last of these guys, but they came back,” Scott Harris, founder and CEO of Catoctin Creek, joked in a prepared statement. “You know how people tell you never to feed a stray cat? Yeah, that’s double that for space monsters. We should never have given them that whiskey. Now, we will never get rid of it!
Recently rated 93 points by Wine Enthusiast magazine, Catoctin Creek’s Ragnarök Rye is a 92-degree rye whiskey that’s stilled, then aged in charred new white oak, sugar maple and cherry wood.
The second version bottle includes new collectible die-cast metal toppers depicting all five band members of Gwar: Blóthar the Berserker; Balsac the Jaws of Death; Jizmak da Gusha; Beefcake the Mighty; and Pustulus Maximus.
One hundred 5-packs of Ragnarök Rye, including an over-bottle of each member of the GWAR band, will be available to order through Catoctin Creek’s national ordering site, www.buyvirginiarye.com. And every purchase includes a chance to win a band-signed guitar, signed barrel head, or lifetime GWAR tickets.
The bottle’s new commemorative whiskey label also matches the artwork for GWAR’s new album, ‘The New Dark Ages’, which was released digitally in June, became available as a CD on July 15 and will be released on vinyl and on tape September 16 via the band’s label, Pit Records.
“Here at GWAR headquarters, we can’t get enough of that Catoctin Creek booze,” Blóthar the Berserker said wryly. “So much so that we decided to settle in Purcellville, Virginia. I’m sure the Chamber of Commerce is thrilled.
Over 700 cases of Ragnarök Rye (92 proof/46% ABV) are now available across Catoctin Creek’s national distribution footprint with a suggested retail price of $99.
