Today, Do LaB, initiators and creators of the Lightning in a Bottle boutique festival experience, unveiled the lineup for the event’s return for 2022 in Buena Vista Lake, Southern California. For five days over Memorial Day weekend, May 25-30, LIB will bring together a unique mix of torchbearers from a range of genres and backgrounds to its famous creative tapestry. Each artist will play their own role to trigger the long-awaited reconnection of the LIB community.
Since 2006, Do LaB has acted as a curatorial beacon for the West Coast festival movement, inspiring a global movement within the broader festival movement. LIB remains a popular destination for artists from around the world to showcase their unique crafts in creative stage environments designed for immersion and wonder. The result is a deep connection between crowd and performer that sets the stage for cutting-edge musical experiences and genre-defying discovery.
LIB’s Lightning Stage remains a central artery through which live and electronic icons thrive. In 2022, the stage will feature performances by British indie rock phenomena Glass Animals, Haitian-Canadian beatsmith Kaytranada, American bass prodigal son GRiZ, as well as crossover leaders SG Lewis, Purity Ring and Chet Faker. Anglo-Nigerian rapper Little Simz and singer-songwriter Empress Of will make their LIB debut, while Monolink makes a triumphant return to the limelight with a new album and worldwide notoriety.
Thunder, traditionally known as the event’s bass enclave, will transform into a tree-lined theater where multiple genres will be presented outdoors with its largest lineup to date. It remains the perfect container for a melting pot of styles topped with electronic songwriter and singer Big Wild, cinematic sounds of CloZee and Los Angeles bass icon Ekali. The excitement for low-end fans continues with experimental soundscapes from G Jones B2B EPROM, LSDream, Mr. Carmack and OPIOU. In keeping with the event’s mission to inspire cross-pollination, American rapper and singer Goldlink will take center stage alongside Jamaican reggae singer and rapper Koffee, and New Orleans rebound legend. Grand Freedia.
Connoisseurs will tell you stories about LIB’s famous house and techno haven, the Woogie stage, which will extend to a full day of programming on Thursday for the 2022 event. International programming is dominated by South African forerunner Black Coffee , the inimitable Four Tet, the globetrotter Seth Troxler and the supplier of deeper shades of the British house Maya Jane Coles. Jon hopkins returns to the event with a new album for psychedelic therapy alongside another electronica pioneer Max Cooper, while melodic flag bearers Hernan Cattaneo, YOTTO, WhoMadeWho and Innellea bring their emotional flavors to the show. Shades of modern house will also have their place at Woogie, with next-gen stars like VNSSA, Lubelski, SOHMI, Honeyluv and Carlita joining legendary barons like Kyle Watson, DJ Minx of Detroit and Marques Wyatt of LA.
The five-day LIB 2022 experience will be kicked off by none other than Mikey Lion of the Desert Hearts Crew, Lee reynolds, Marbs and Porky on a scenic return from their famous lakefront launch party, this time taking control of the new sandy enclave dubbed LIBeach. On top of that, there will be a 4-hour Joe Kay (Soulection) experience taking place Thursday night at The Stacks. Do LaB is also presenting a new stage at LIB called The Junk Yard, which will house the Junk In The Trunk art car. Seen at Burning Man, Junk in the Trunk will serve as a stage backdrop and will occasionally be mobile in the festival. The Junk Yard will replace the Favela Bar as the event host for favorite native California house and techno artists.
Continuing this mission of reconnecting the LIB community early and often, Do LaB continues its creative partnership with LIB alumni RÜFÜS DU SOL around the group’s upcoming triumph from November 12-14 at Banc of California Stadium in downtown LA. Do LaB will bring a 150-foot-long immersive sound-responsive video sculpture to the field outside the stadium for the three days, which will provide a preview of the installation on display at LIB. They brought in Boreta from The Glitch Mob for the experience soundtrack and LA Media house Strangeloop Studios to create audio-responsive visuals for fans to get lost. Come experience something distinctly like Do LaB in its original downtown Los Angeles breeding ground. Known as one of the earliest supporters of RÜFÜS before the group performed on some of the world’s most famous stages, Do LaB remains anchored in its identity of Los Angeles and beyond.
For those looking for the joy of a camping festival with added comfort, LIB will offer for the first time a new VIP experience that only Do LaB can imagine. VIP pass holders can stand up in the backstage lounges of Lightning, Thunder and Woogie, grab a quick drink in these areas at full bars, and watch headlining performances in the elevated observation area of Lightning Stage . These new elements will complement the event’s nearly decades-long commitment to bringing together cutting-edge music across many distinct stages, educational and motivated discussions and activities at The Compass, an intriguing immersive lineup from favorites like The Grand Artique, Unicorn Palace, The Mixtape and more.
Lightning in a Bottle is ready to return home to the beautiful shores of Lake Buena Vista in Southern California and reclaim its traditional Memorial Weekend date – May 25-30, 2022.
