Ericsson and Vodafone launch a crusade in Spain with the 5G laboratory


Ericsson and Vodafone Spain have joined forces to launch a 5G lab in Spain as the pair aim to continue their efforts to drive the evolution of next-generation technology in the market.

Named Vodafone 5G Lab, the new facility in Madrid will be open to developers and ISVs to develop use cases based on the latest network technology, designed for the consumer and enterprise sectors.

In its first year, the lab is expected to be used by more than 200 developers and companies, Ericsson said in a statement.

Vodafone 5G Lab will be powered by Ericsson’s 5G Core offering, operating independently of the premises’ existing 4G network, and will also host events, roadshows, workshops and challenges designed to help small businesses and start-ups .

The vendor said the hub will “take a significant step for 5G in the region” by solidifying the start-up ecosystem while ensuring the entire development chain has access to “the best connectivity” and technologies. better devices.

Marta de Pablos, strategic marketing manager for 5G at Vodafone Spain, said the decision was essential for the company’s strategy “to continue being pioneers and a reference in the deployment and use of networks and services 5G in Spain”.

The pair began work on a trial of a standalone 5G core in Spain in July, touting the step as a market first.
