See Smite add the world’s biggest metal band as playable characters

In the video game world, it’s not often that musicians enter the fold. Maybe if you count games like Guitar Hero, which brought Slash from Guns N’ Roses. But even rarer than that is a video game involving a heavy metal band. This is no longer the case, because Punishment has now brought arguably the biggest metal band in the world, Slipknot! All nine members of the hit metal collective will join the game as playable characters. Well, that is, they will act as skins for already established characters, but they still look great. You can switch to the trailer below:

The nine members of the Slipknot group will be added to the existing characters in Punishment. They were designated for some characters that already exist in the game, but the realistic party member skins are amazing. Corey Taylor, Sid Wilson, and Craig Jones will be added as skins for Poseidon. Mick Thomson, Jim Root and Alessandro Venturella will be added to Chaac. Michael Pfaff, Shawn “Clown” Crahan and Jay Weinberg will be added to Raijin. As far as ambitious video game crossovers go, this has got to be one of the biggest. The trailer shows what each member looks like in-game, as their song “Duality” plays in the background. With a bit of luck, Punishment allows some of the band’s music to be integrated into the game as well.

Punishment may be one of the lesser-watched MOBAs out there, but it’s still very successful, given that it runs well on both PC and console. Third-person perspective gaming is about to get a whole lot more metal. The game brought many crossovers which included the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Avatar: The Last Airbender, stranger things, Transformersand Rambo. The game introduced some characters that make sense in the grand scheme of things, but the addition of the Slipknot group is going to be quite an experience.

Right now, the Slipknot skins and the 9.5 update are live. The best part of it all is that Punishment is free, so fans can check out this limited event and become their favorite Slipknot members on the Battleground of the Gods. Hopefully this crossover goes well for gaming and music in general, and we may see even more musicians making their way into popular video games. Slipknot skins can be purchased from in-game stores or found in chests in case those of you don’t have the gems to unlock these metal tycoons.

Punishment is free on Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch, PC and Amazon Luna. Fans can check out the new playable members of Slipknot and hopefully unlock more than skins. There are also loading screens, player titles, and musical themes to discover. Slipknot becoming the first full band to make their way into a video game is fantastic, and hopefully it will usher in even more ambitious crossovers. We can honestly say that all our hope is definitely not gone.
