Telefonica, SATEF’s digital TEF business unit, Telefonica Tech, recently extended its collaboration with Alias ââRobotics to unveil a robotic cybersecurity lab at the Wayra Innovation Hub in Munich, Germany. It is touted as the world’s first laboratory dedicated solely to promoting innovation in industrial robots and mobile robotic platforms.
Dubbed CS4R (Cyber ââSecurity For Robots), the establishment of this lab is a vital development, especially at a time when the majority of global technology companies are imagining ways to automate industrial operations so that humans and robots can coexist on the back. technologies of the future. Additionally, the partnership with Alias ââRobotics will help tackle growing cyber threats while accelerating digital transformation with an improved cybersecurity posture for robots.
The project was initially announced in December 2020 in association with Alias ââRobotics. The investment is led by Telefonica’s innovation center – Wayra – and is primarily aimed at increasing the use of robots in industrial environments. The investment was further integrated into Telefonica Tech Ventures. Founded by Telefonica Innovation Ventures and ElevenPaths, Telefonica Tech Ventures is a global venture capital vehicle for cybersecurity startups. The CS4R lab will enable both entities to help organizations safely face the next wave of digitization.
The CS4R lab will feature a plethora of robots, such as collaborative robots, that interact directly with workers to avoid production downtime resulting from evolving cyber attacks, thereby streamlining workflows for improved operational efficiency. The launch of the cybersecurity lab will allow Alias ââRobotics to demonstrate the feasibility of its flagship product, the Robot Immune System (RIS).
It should be mentioned that Alias ââRobotics is known to be behind the first RIS, a certified security software solution that protects bots from malware. With an integrated portfolio of protection technologies, RIS is sponsored by the European Union and the Basque government, among other associations. The alliance with Telefonica is expected to enable Alias ââRobotics to strengthen its RIS solution in order to better serve its customers with the best security services and to exploit lucrative opportunities in the booming cybersecurity industry for robots.
